Rhode Island’s Culture Shines Through: A Homecoming

After nearly two decades of living and working around the world, I’ve returned to Rhode Island — the place I’ve always called home, even from afar. Eighteen years later, I’m back in the Ocean State, and it feels incredible to rediscover everything that makes this corner of New England so special, from the natural beauty to the vibrant cultural events. What strikes me most about returning to Rhode Island is the incredible creativity and sense of community that define this place. The people here are driven, passionate, and deeply connected to their craft. Whether it’s through art, music, food, or local events, Rhode Islanders showcase a level of talent and innovation that’s truly inspiring. It’s a place where creativity thrives, and the community comes together to support and celebrate one another. I’m proud to be part of this vibrant culture once again.

The Rhode Island Oyster Festival: A Taste of the Ocean

The Rhode Island Oyster Festival is an event that brings people together in a celebration of our state's rich maritime heritage. Fresh, local oysters and seafood represent the flavors of the Atlantic, but it’s more than just a culinary experience. It’s about Rhode Island’s longstanding relationship with the ocean and the hardworking communities that rely on it.

Having worked on projects around the globe, I’ve experienced food festivals in cities like Rome, Seoul, and The Bahamas, but there’s something unique about the Rhode Island Oyster Festival. Here, it’s personal. You’re not just tasting oysters; you’re connecting with the people who farm them. It’s an authentic celebration of our maritime roots, and it speaks to the sense of pride Rhode Islanders have in supporting local, sustainable industries. I’m thrilled to be back in time to capture and share this local tradition through my lens.

WaterFire: Providence Lights the Way

The other hallmark of Providence’s cultural scene is WaterFire. There’s nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world, and WaterFire stands out for its emotional impact and how it transforms downtown Providence into a beacon of light and community.

As the fires flicker across the rivers, you can feel the heartbeat of this city. The combination of fire, music, and art brings people together in a way that is truly magical. WaterFire is not just an event; it’s an expression of the creativity that runs through the veins of Providence. It’s an honor to be back here, working on my media company, and capturing the essence of this city that I am so proud to call home.

Providence: A City Like No Other

I left Rhode Island when I was still figuring out who I was, chasing opportunities far from home. I had the chance to explore countless cities across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Each one has its own charm, but Providence? Providence holds its own against any of them. Its size makes it approachable, but its cultural depth rivals cities much larger. The blend of historic architecture, a thriving arts scene, and world-class food makes this city something truly special.

Providence and Rhode Island have grown and evolved in incredible ways since I last lived here. There’s a new energy that runs through the streets. The creative community has grown, and there’s a deeper appreciation for local talent. In the short time I’ve been back, I’ve already connected with so many incredible people in the creative world here, and I’m excited to continue building those relationships. There’s something about being from Rhode Island that means more than I can put into words — it’s pride, it’s belonging, and it’s an unshakable sense of community.

A Rhode Island Autumn: The Perfect Welcome Back

Autumn is an incredible time of year in Rhode Island. The air is crisp, the colors are vibrant, and the sense of renewal is undeniable. The changing of the seasons here is something that you don’t truly appreciate until you’ve been away. It feels like the perfect welcome back as I dive into my work with Jimmy Salabert Media, capturing the beauty, culture, and spirit of Rhode Island and New England in a way that I hope will inspire others to see this state the way I do — as a place like no other.

A New Solo Journey

This time around, there’s something even more significant about my return. For the first time in a long time, I’m doing this solo — building my media company from the ground up. It’s a leap, but one that I’m more than ready for. Every project, every client, and every story I take on will reflect my vision, my passion, and the pride I have in this place. It’s both exciting and humbling to be able to do this here, where my journey started all those years ago. There’s no place like home.
